Before launching the CHRGP, we undertook extensive research to determine a widely acceptable and nutritious combination of foods with a long shelf life and that can be transported easily.

A meal under the Canadian Hunger Relief Gifting Program will consist of a serving of long grain white rice and/or kidney beans along with a portion of pure powdered Barley Grass.

While Rice and Beans will satisfy one's hunger and provide a certain amount of protein and nutritional value, Barley Grass will provide a significant portion of the daily required vitamins and nutrients.

What is Barley Grass?

Barley Grass is a dark green leafy vegetable that has been a staple in the Chinese diet for centuries and is often described as a "superfood".

Barley Grass, in its powdered form, is equivalent in nutritional value to eating 20 times its weight of all other vegetables. It's loaded with vitamins, nutrients and minerals and will provide a natural source of the body's needs.

Barley Grass also contains proteins, chlorophyll, phytochemicals, amino acids and enzymes, including all the essential molecules we need from our diets. Of the 3000 enzymes known and identified, Barley Grass contains up to 1000 of them.

Research has also found that Barley Grass has antioxidant qualities, anti-inflammatory benefits and has been proven to provide the immune system with added support.
